Ok, I installed a new wiring harness and checked all connections as per instructions. Started the truck and the ammeter pegged at full charging mark. The battery has a full chrge, just took off the battery charger. when shut off the needle stays in the full chargeing postion. Whats wrong? worked before started restoration. have swithed wires no difference.???????????????

thanks

Hmmmmmmmmmm not sure, but new battery gauge reads as follows. When ignition is off, guage reads in the middle between "D-C". If headlamps are turned on before vehicle is started guage reads "D". Once vehicle is started and generator is running, the more RPM turned the higher my guage goes on the "C" side of the guage. Perhaps somehow your battery is SUPER SWEET or getting full voltage no matter what your ignition switch is at..............

You have a serious problem here. I would assume that you did not leave the battery connected with the amp meter pegged.

I would start by removing the two wires on the generator and taping the ends so that they can't touch anything. Next, I would do the same to the "arm" and "fld" wires on the regulator. Now things should act normal except your ammeter will show a slight discharge, when the ignition is on.

After this, I would reattach the regulator wires and try again. Finally, I would sugest that you reattach the generator wires. Somewhere along this path, you are going to run into a surprise!

The needle pegged at "C" indicates current is flowing to your battery, assuming the meter is working properly. Disconnect the +ve terminal to the battery, does the needle stay at "C"? If so, your meter is toast. If the meter needle goes to mid point, then current was definitely going through the meter but not to the battery (the only thing that can send current to the battery is the alternator/generator). If this is the situation, then I think you have your ammeter terminals reversed and a heavy current drain somewhere, possibly a short.
