does anyone have a picture of the springs that connect to the frame brkt and the clutch/brake pedals. I believe I have them but not sure which spring goes where. I know that there is a rod that connects to the brake spring and pedal.

Thanks

Dave

Lonnie What is 27 MPC group? I have the FAM manual but the clutch spring Looks different then the clutch spring that I have. Mine is 6 7/8" long X 3/4' dia. The free length of tha actual coils(50) is 5 1/2" long. It looks to be a very strong spring. I also have a 50 coil spring that is 9 3/4" long overall, with 4 3/4" of free coils. Which do you think may be the right one?
Thanks to you and Dads 50 for the help!!!!!
Dave

oldburbs -

I appologize for the shorthand. "MPC" is the Master Parts Catalog - available on line at Keith Hardy' site.
> Old Online Chevy Manuals
> '29-'54 MPC
> '29-'57 MPC

Brake Pull Back Spring Description
(FYI - 4.827 #369935 is parking brake pull back spring)
> MPC Group 4.827, part #3698665

Clutch Pedal Pull Back Spring Description
> MPC Group 0.844, part #3653114
> Clutch Pedal Diagram in MPC

>> I'm not sure what springs you have. The photos by DADS50 match the Factory Assembly Manual diagrams. I defer to him regarding which of your springs would be correct for each job. I assume that the spring with the stronger pull would be for the clutch pedal.

Aftermarket springs are probably not exactly correct. I replaced the brake pedal return spring on my '54 with one from Chevs of the 40s. Chevs of the 40s often uses the same part number as the MPC (#3698665). The Chevs spring is 5-3/4" overall length, it has 50 coils, is 1/2" ID, and the hooks on each end are 1" from the coils. The spring that I replaced was stretched and distorted and I don't know if was original. It had 27 coils (30?), the hook on one end was 3-3/4" from the coils, and the hook on the other end was 7/8" from the coils. It looked like the brake spring in FAM 5/2.00, but not like the one in FAM 6/4.00. I don't know the correct length of the "Brake Link" in FAM 6/4.00 and the "3683931 EXTENSION" in FAM 5/2.00.
> Chevs #3698665

Chevs of the 40s spring #3653114 (the clutch pedal pull back spring in the MPC) is listed as Throwout Arm Spring, 6" in Chevs catalog and does not look like the spring in the FAM or the one in Gus's photos. The spring on my '54 clutch pedal is like the Chevs of the 40s spring, and it works fine.
> Chevs #3653114

The Filling Station "CLUTCH PEDAL RETURN SPRING" #SA-187 looks like the one in the FAM
> Filling Station #SA-187

The Filling Station does not show a "Brake Pedal Return Spring."

Guess I totally muddied up the waters!

Dads 50;
I'm sorry, but I don't know your name. However, I want to thank you very much for sending the pic of the clutch spring. Thats exactly what I needed. Would you happen to have a pic of the brake spring too?I know it gets an extending rod that goes between the spring and brake pedal. this is so much appreciated.
Can I tell you how much I appreciate what you've done in carrying on in your fathers footsteps by preserving his pickup. I KNOW HE WOULD BE VERY PROUD!!!!
Again thank you for your help.
