I have a chevy front/rear end I bought many years ago and do not remember the exact year. I want to put it under my '86 Silverado 1/2 ton. The 3/4 ton rear end has a 410 ring gear with open carrier. I want to put in a positrac.
Any suggestions on brand and model number of positrac? I like 4 wheelin and pulled it with the 1/2 ton suff. The new 3/4 stuff needs to be tuff enough to hold up to a tractor pull one a year?

The ARB selectable air lockers are tue best of both worlds, open the rest of the time and locked completely only when you want it.
I have one for my truck haven't installed it yet.

As far as posi's go for the 10.5" 14 bolt, about all you're going to find is the "gearless" lockers such as Eaton/Detroit, Powertrax/Lock-Right, and Yukon. I've heard about as much good as I've heard bad about them. My Dad had an Eaton in an 85 K30 and it gave us years of trouble free service. We abused the heck out of it too. After turning, you had to wait to get on the gas until you felt it lock in. If you didn't, you would get a violent jerk and a bang! when it locked in.

On the other hand, the ARB like Grigg has, seems to be a good option. Lock it whe you need it, open when you don't. It's probably a little more complicated than the gearless type, but on a truck that sees alot of street time and some off road time, probably worth it.

My 1/2 ton has gearless lockers front and rear. Front is Auburn and rear is Eaton. I have really abused them...almost Coors proof. As I have indicated, I want to swithch to 3/4 stuff. After reading your input, I may just as well stay with the brands you have mentioned. Thanks your all input.
