Jul 21st, 2025 | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 36 | hello everyone I have a 1951 chevy 3100 (pick-up)with a 216 and i am removing the oil pan and i have heard that you have to lift the eng at the front and i have also heard that it will come down with ease and i have also heard to take the plate by the flywheel off and it should come down. well i thought i would try and i have removed all the hardwear and the oil pan doesn't want to come down from the front, the back come down a good amount. so my question to you is what should i do to remove the oil pan what is the best way?

If you are sure you have removed all the bolts(run your finger around the pan rim to make sure) maybe tapping on the pan to pop it lose would help. Than just lower the back and slide the pan rearward for clearance.

The truck has a straight front axle & does not have a crossmember under the engine.
