hello everyone I have a 1951 chevy 3100 (pick-up)with a 216 and i am removing the oil pan and i have heard that you have to lift the eng at the front and i have also heard that it will come down with ease and i have also heard to take the plate by the flywheel off and it should come down. well i thought i would try and i have removed all the hardwear and the oil pan doesn't want to come down from the front, the back come down a good amount. so my question to you is what should i do to remove the oil pan what is the best way?

You should not need to remove or raise the engine to remove the oil pan on your 216. If you are sure you have removed all the bolts(run your finger around the pan rim to make sure) maybe tapping on the pan to pop it lose would help. Than just lower the back and slide the pan rearward for clearance.

There is a big difference in the biscayne & a truck. The truck has a straight front axle & does not have a crossmember under the engine.

If the pan is loose, it may be getting humg up on the front motor mount oil shield. I got rid of mine because of that.

Sometimes just turning the engine a little gets the front crank counter balance weight out of the way making it come off easier.

On my '38 216 I have to either pull one end of the tie rod or one end of the cross member aft of the pan then swing it out of the way.
