Looking through some of the tech tips I used originally when I rebuilt and set the lifters,really ran smoothe. Now with #1 in Top dead center bothe valves shut I notice you can push down the intake lifter but not the exhaust, could this be a bad lifter I am looking for, myself I wouldn't think you could push them down at all after it's been running for about 3 years. Thank you..

A lifter that has air trapped in it can also do the same thing. You may want to look at my blog. I have a topic there about getting trapped air out of 235 lifters. My blog link

My 1956 engine with new cam and hydro lifters takes about 4 minutes to quiet down at idle. This happens every time I start it up. The machinst told me to run the adjuster screw down only one turn after taking the play out of the pushrod. Shoul I take it down the 1 1/2 turns the manual says. I dont remember if the pushrods have that slot in them. He told me not to soak them either. Them motor has about 4 hours on it. The body is still in the body shop. Thanks Dave

Hydraulic lifters that are noisy on start up usually have a little to tight of clearance between the plunger and the body of the lifter. Once the lifter starts to warm the expansion of the body releases the plunger and the lifter will then function correctly. This problem will most likely go away with use.

I too also used one of Dave's water pump adapters on my 58-62 block using my original set up from my 1950 3600. It too is doing well.
We better quit talking about things like this or murphys law will engauge!
