The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop hood alignment problem

I have a '56 3100. Took it to a paint and body man for body work and paint after finding out in a hurry that this wasn't my niche'.
I now have the truck back ( after over 6 months) and find the hood won't close right ( it did before) It all lines up, but the back of the hood at the cowl sticks-up about 2"..I can push it down with my hand, both sides and it's okay but I shouldn't need to do this...what could be wrong ??..any advice ?
The body man says I need new hinges, but it was okay before....TIA for help

worked until the hinges were cleaned and painted? take the springs off and try closing the hood, if it closes flat at the cowl without the springs then yes, the hinge pivots are worn, not uncommon

Did he have the hood off and put it back on? Did he by chance take the hinges off or apart?

It's possible that the hood just needs to be adjusting on the mounting bolts to the hinges. Try this first to see if this solves your problems.

Will try removing springs to see if it closes right. The pivots seem tight ( not sloppy)...it worked okay before so I can't understand them being worn now, but will try as you sugguset..

Yes the hood was taken off when I removed the engine/trans...We have tried adjusting it every way we know..still humped up at the cowl area, will go down with a push....

Sounds like the hinges are worn, mine did the same thing.
