Anyone ever try swapping a GMC cab with a Chevy for 47 - 54? Any major differences? Does anyone know if the body mounts are in the same locations for these years? Thanks

The cab mounts are different in the earlier years and the dashes in the 54/5 GMC'S and the Chevrolets are different, most other components are interchangeable. What specific year are you swapping?

Thanks, Looking at 48 models . I did notice on the driver side vent might have a larger opening where the outside air came through & maybe the handle.

Not certain of the GMC/Chevy differences, but a 47/48 chevy cab uses a 3 point cab mount and framerail mount fuel tank, whereas the 49+ chevy cab uses a 4 point cab mount and fuel tank behind the seat.

I have a 48 cab that I intended to swap for a 49 on my truck. Well, that didn't work. At least not as a bolt on, no fuss swap. Of course, I'm picking up another 49 cab this week.

What problems did you have trying to bolt a 48 to your 49. I have a 47 that I plan on putting on my 51 what problems might I run into??? Sorry not trying to hijack the thread

In order to answer your question correctly, we will need more information. How do you know that you have a 47 cab? If you truly have a 47 cab you will have issues with mounting a three speed shifter on the column, your gauges will not be interchangeable, no provisions for a gas tank inside the cab, the emergency brake components will b missing, the cab mounts will be different, you will have a vent on the drivers side. Does your 47 cab meet this description?

I have a 48 with a 48 cab, and I'm switching to the later rear mounts. You can buy the missing reinforcement plates/brackets that go on the bottom of the cab from the usual vendors, reproduction. Mounts you need to find used and buy the bushing kit.
Drill 4 holes in the frame side rails and remove your old center mount.
