Does anyone have a picture of the 48-53 bed without the wood (or any picture that would help me) so I can see where the cross sills are and how the front is held on?

The front panel bolts to the front cross sill it is drilled for it along the bottom. It then has a long bolt that goes through the front panels rolled top part and bolts up on both sides and then a number of bolts down on each side. If you use all thread on the long bolt you can nut it internally underneath (there is a small pocket) so it won't turn when you tighten them up.

My truck is a 50

There is some discussion about the wood blocks and the rubber pads. My take is that everywhere a wood block touches the frame it should have a pad (ClassicParts for one disagrees). You should also have a pad under the steel supports on the rear sill member. This link from Mar-K should iluustrate the attachements for you. And yes the front sill bolts directly to the front bed panel. it has a series of 1/4" holes along one edge for this purpose.

Brad: I noticed you placed wooden blocks under your second sill. I was under the impression that the second one is a "floating" sill. Just curious...

My truck is a 3600 with a different arrangement so it has a floating sill, but it has one additional sill due to length that a 3100 does not have. The photos on my page of the green bed being assembled are for a 3100 I found them in an article years ago. Follow those and the Mar-k information and you will be set. On my truck when I finally finished it I actually removed the floating sill since I don't ever load the bed heavy. The floating sill was designed for a very heavy load to compress the bed until that sill contacted the frame. In my trucks new life it will never see that demand.
