I am leaning towards POR-15 for the job, and was wondering if anyone knew where to get the best price. Or if someone has a better product for the job, I would like to hear it. | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 1,901 | Do a search in here and you'll find many posts about Por 15 and it's intended media application. Rust.
New metal or bare metal is safer under a good Epoxy Primer, not urethane, not poly, Epoxy.

I get it quick, a good price, and they sell enough that I know it will be fresh. Like CASO said, use it when appropriate. It works best on rusty parts that have the scale sanded off. | | | | Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 62 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2012 Posts: 62 | Personally, I prefer Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator paint. Easy to apply, or thin to spray. Easy to topcoat (no tie coat needed) and it's not UV sensitive either.

I have used it a another project and it is also performing well. So I would have no hesitation in using it again.

And if anybody is interested Eastwood's has a sale on the rust encapsulator and seam sealer (1 quart and 30 oz of seam sealer)for $40. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | ...good buy Jimmie. The last POR15 I purchased here at Finish Masters was $53 with tax per quart...but then a quart will go a loong way.
...Tim, good to see your still kicking!!

I don't mind spending the money on the product, but $75 to $400 is a bit extravagant for an applicator that I will use maybe 6 or 7 times. From what I have read 2K sealers are preferable to 1k or urathane sealers. Any ideas or comments or workarounds for expensive specialty applicators?
