Can anyone give me any advise on removing the oil pump? I've spun the shaft out of the way and am atempting to remove the retaining sleeve set screw. What a B****. First off does anyone remember what size it is? It appears to be 1/2" but it fits a little loose and i don't want to round it off. I don't know if its just the downward angle that it is in or what. Can anyone give me any tips that might help me?

You need to loosen the lock nut before loosening the pinch bolt.
The lock nut should be 5/8" and the bolt 1/2".

ah, the lock nut is down around the base, i wondered why it was sticking ouit so far, its so hard to see up in there, thanks

Thanks Dave, came right out, looks like it was good after all. Everything was clean as a whistle. It had oil in it and when i spun it with a screwdriver it shot right out. How often do they go bad? I spent 70 dollars on a new one and now i'm thinking about taking it back rather than putting it in.

I almost never find a pump that needs to be replaced.
Low oil pressure gets blamed on oil pumps all the time but it is seldom the pump.
If the shaft is not loose in the housing and the gears are not badly scored it will go a long time.
