I have a 53 3100 someone removed the 3 speed and installed a four speed trans with torque tube. The 4 speed has a hole in the trans. rear bearing retainer. Is this a breather hole or a place to fill the torque tube joint?

From a manual for an older year, reference is made to a pipe plug. The purpose of the plug was to allow access to the universal area for the purpose of adding lubricant after assembly. This was an initial treatment as the area is supplied from the transmission.
