I am new to this and I just got my dad's (now mine) 1951 3/4 ton running and now I need to make is stop! Anybody know where I can find brake drums? Everybody seems to have them for the 3100's but the 3600's seem elusive. Rear's are 12x2 and fronts are 11x1-3/4. Thanks for any help.

I have a complete rear axle from a 49' 3600 with all of the brake hardware, freshly re-lined drum linings, rebuilt wheel cylinders, and turned drums. I rebuilt the brakes with the intentions of staying with the stock axle but ended up swapping it out for something with better gearing. Eveything was in working order and fully fuctional before I swapped it all out with about 10 miles on the drums and linings just driving around the farm. I was getting ready to post all of the brake parts for sale shortly. You might need more than just drums depending on how long she's been sitting. I can email you some pics.

Pictures would be great. Is the 49 3600 the same as the 51? She sat for about 20 years and is a bit of a mess. I have most of the parts but many need replacing or rebuilding. Sent email via PM.

The drums on these old 3/4 and 1 Tons are the hardest parts to find. For me that was a big worry but I am lucky to have good ones now.

Are used the only option or is there a source for them? Can another drum be used without changing everything?
Thanks

You can check all the truck parts vendors. I think for sure the rears are probably not available new. Some of the vendors offer used drums. If you measure your drums you may find you can use them.

Just a thought, why not upgrade to a later model Bendix style. The 53-58 trucks used a 12x2 Bendix style, not Huck.

GM also used quite a number of different size and widths on the 14 bolt axle. A 13 drum from a late 80's van may work for your appliction.

As I am new to this I will have to research what would be entailed to convert them. Are the 53-58 8 lug wheels?
