#89342 09/08/2003 11:59 PM | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | Got in the 52 to go to work this morning,batterlow would not start, I did not leave anything on this time, at least I saw no signs of it,,,the battery's are good , and put on a new alternator last week, no problem till this morning, drove the truck yesterday with no problem, what would cause a drain,, what is the best way to look for a short? I put in my other fresh battery, truck cranked right away,,guess tomorrow will tell me something,,,,Fred

Taking off one of the battery cables and jumping across to the battery with a bulb is a good test setup. I would suspect your new alternator has a bad diode or regulator.

#89345 09/09/2003 2:19 AM | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | Brian. it is according to the trucks gage,when you turn on the headlight switch you can see the amp gage charge a little more, I will wait and see and then take the new alt off and get it checked, but all looks normal, something is weird though cause the battery was a 850 cca and it went down over night, the battery is only 3 months old...Fred

Had every specialist look at it check it; tried 3 different 100 AMP alt. Finnally I said the heck with it and took the wire that went to firewall and hooked it directly to battery.

#89349 09/11/2003 2:43 AM | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | checked the new alt that I bouught last week, it is not chargeing right, trying to install the new one tonight, got dark and had to stop. having trouble getting the fan belt to line up straight,,these after market things can be a pain in the a,,. had no problem before and it is suspose to be the same alt,,,will try again tomorrow,,thanks for all that have responded,,,Fred
