I was informed that almost all of the heads on these motors are cracked. I am in shock because I thought these were well built motors. I Want to keep this truck as stock as possible. I don't care if I can' t drive across the country at 75mph. I am aware that these trucks were built to work. I just want to restore the old girl and spend my weekends putting around and waxing her. Why are these heads so "fragile"? I guess we will see if my head is cracked before tear down. Also, anyone know of great parts resource for the 228? Thanks.

Smoked a bit but if I am going to restore the truck I am going through the motor and transmission. I am hoping that the head will be fine.

I just want the engine completely gone through before I restore the truck completely. Thanks for all the advice.
Anyone recommend a good source for GMC parts?
