ok, if the answer to this one is really obvious, please be kind!!!

have been rehooking up wiring, got battery in, lights work, engine turns over (doesn't start yet, but that's another story), and things look fine EXCEPT ... the votage guage goes to the postive side (_/_) when you apply load (ie. crank the engine) instead of going to the negative side (_\_) . Checked wiring (to best of my limited ability) and looks ok.

any ideas?

One of two things, did you change the wires on the back of the amp meter, or stick the battery in backwards?

REMEMBER ALOT OF TRUCKS WERE POSITIVE GROUND UNTIL 55. TO CHANGE YOU NEED A NEG. GROUND REGULATOR. SOUNDS LIKE THE BATTERY IS IN BACKWARDS. cool

 knew it would probably be something simple....i just didn't have enough stuff hooked up. got the headlights in today and sure enough...turning them on shows a discharge on gauge. battery is definetly in right, negative ground etc. fuel gauge and wipers work. still shows a charge when cranking engine and I would have thought draw would show discharge at that point?? ps. its a 64 v8 with the 3 wire alternator and separate volt regulator. thanks for responses.
