I have parts of my interior that were painted and I would like to attempt to remove only the resprayed layer leaving as much of the original paint intact. It is estimated that the respray was done in the 60's.
Any suggestions?

I would use a water base stripper and a scotchbrite pad. Lay a uniform layer of stripper down with a brush and wait a few minutes then scrub it with the scotchbrite pad and warm soapy water. Do small areas at a time, no more than two square feet.
When you are finished I would lightly go over everything with rubbing compound to make the newly exposed finish look uniform.
Well, that's what I would do.

Making a repaint the inevitable solution it seems to me
