hey, i have a 59 stepside with a munice 318 i believe, it has a column shifter, i have to play around with it to find the correct gears and i cant seem to find the first gear at all, not sure if its the shifter or the trans?
Probably the shifter. Check to see all the shift rod connections are tight. It may need new bushings. Also check to see that the neutral position goes from the first-reverse plane to the 2nd-3rd plane and back without having to be jiggled. This can be adjusted out.
