Has two bumps at 11:00 and 7:00 on rear cover. Can't find numbers on it. From what I've read, its an open rear so it cant be original, correct? A 1953 car and a 1953 1/2 ton truck would have had an enclosed driveshaft.
Larger 1953 trucks would have had an open rear end.
Maybe someone can ID what you have from that photo. Post any codes on the body of the rear end and maybe someone can help with those?

Is this a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton? If 3/4 ton with the 8 lug wheels, It will be open drive shaft.

I'm just trying to figure out what year and what 10 bolt it is. Was also trying to figure ratio, but I guess I'll have to pull the cover and count teeth. Its leaking anyway!

| | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | It's a '55-'62 HO33 from a 1/2 ton truck. There should be a code stamped on the passenger side of the 3rd member. That code will give the ratio, though most likely it will be a 3.90.

And if 3:90,s what will be top speed on the 216 and max rpms approx.? Sorry, this dipper engine thing is all new to me! I met a guy at a carshow Saturday and he has a 235 from a 57 he'd let go for 300.00. But I actualy like the 216 now that I have it running!
