Hy baldybenny, I believe the 1 1/2 tons have an eight sided screw in hub cap on the front axle, while the 2 tons have a bolted on cap on the front axle, hope that helps.

Chevy, or GMC ? GMC trucks had ratings as high as 20 tons, while Chevy went no higher than 2 ton through 1955 2nd series.

Does the truck have a vehicle number tag on it?

If there is a model number on it, it should match the weights in 1948 .

I believe the 2 tons have a drum type parking brake mounted to the rear of the transmission versus the cables running to the two rear drums on a 1.5 ton.

I think that the 1.5 and 2.0 ton Chevrolet trucks did not have a propeller shaft parking brake until 1951.

47 model numbers and specs, 1.5T would be a 4000 series, 2T is a 6000 series and has hydrovac - I believe the frame will also be 'fishplated' between the cab and rear spring hangers on 2T
