Anyone put a push button starter in your 47-53 truck? Where did you put it? I am thinking the throttle cable hole since I don't have that cable.

that'd work, but in an area where auto theft might be common, maybe under the lip of the dash would be helpful .... along with a battery disconnect kill switch .... and a wheel lock

The stomp starter is a good anti-theft device, but here's a sneaky one somebody mentioned on the forum some time ago. The starter button was hidden behind a fake cigarette lighter, and cranked the engine when the lighter was pushed in with the ignition switch turned on. As an added anti-theft option, it would be easy to pocket the "lighter" when the truck is parked. Whomever thought that one up deserves a "well done"!

My Dad installed a push button starter in my 49 big bolt (a long time ago) and he installed it on the left hand side. That way you can work the choke while you are cranking the engine. Of course that was before anyone worried about theft.

Nash had a starter button mounted beside the clutch pedal, with a small tab attached to the underside of the pedal to depress the button when the clutch was pushed all the way to the floor. The 1950's Buick straight 8's were the slick ones- - - -a switch in the carburetor cranked the engine when the driver stepped on the gas pedal, then the switch was disabled by manifold vacuum once the engine started.

IM liking the cig lighter with a small pushbutton disconnect as wel, Picked one up in cedar rapids swapmeet this morning( under a blanket of rain) but that's ok!

Some time ago, I drew up a circuit diagram for an anti-theft device that requires the driver to push a hidden button to energize a magnetic-hold circuit to complete the ignition circuit from the key swich to the coil. Anytime the key is turned off, the system resets itself to the "won't start" default position. It involves using two of the small square Bosch relays and a momentary-contact push button. Even if a thief manages to bypass the ignition switch or steals the keys, the engine won't start without pushing the hidden button.

I have mine set up with a kill switch to the distributor. It's a push button and the starter will crank over but it'll be no go till that switch is pushed. I also have a momentary switch acting as an on/off switch for my electric fuel pump.
