Had my running boards painted and they look great, but now I can't get the rear holes to line up with the mounting holes in the rear fender. Any suggestions?

I've only tried the passenger board so far. I inserted stainless washers between the board and the supports to maintain constant contact along the entire running board. Even with the board shimmed above the supports, the holes at the rear of the running board are still about 1/4" below the holes in the rear fender. AND the running board holes are 3/8" toward the outside of the rear fender holes. I can't seem to warp the fender enough to move the board inward the required 3/8".

The holes are off too much to insert a pick at an angle and pull them together.

Thanks for any advice that you can give to me.

Lonnie and I successfully re-installed his running boards today with a minimal amount of paint damage to the cab and fender on the passenger side. It seems there were prior problems with that side.
But, we overcame those problems and now he is closer to the concours show he is going to. smile

> Wayne -
I can't thank you enough for your help and advice today. I was at a total dead end.

> 'Bolters -
Wayne is underplaying his role in mounting my running boards.
+ He contacted me and offered his help as soon as he read my post asking for advice.
+ He drove over 50 miles today to help me.
+ We worked solid for six hours to mount them.
+ I don't know anyone else in Orlando that could have assessed the problem and found the fix.
+ The only good thing that he got out of the ordeal was that he drove to my house in his '67 Mustang with the top down!

Not only do I owe Wayne, but I also owe Stovebolt.com. I want to "play it forward." So, if any of you guys in the area need a weak back and a weaker mind to help with your truck, contact me.

I don't say it often enough ...
This is a great forum and 'Bolters are the best.

Thanks again, Wayne.

Lonnie, glad you had someone to help you out. I am fortunate to have a wife who is very mechanically inclined and we were able to do the drivers side. It was not "a walk in the park" though. One of the holes did not line up perfectly even tho the other two bolts were in, so I drilled it out. I did this procedure before I installed the step bolts under the boards. Not sure if it makes a difference. I still have the other side to do! Steve
