How common is it to have a truck titled in different year. I read somewhere that in Va. if you bought your model year in say the fall of 56 that was the year they called the truck. They did'nt title them by vin#s in Va. Does it really matter anyway. I've thought about going to DMV to see if they would change it, but its just not that important.

That is correct - year of titling/registration, not model year, was quite common.

Some manufacturers did not even give year designations (GMC, for example), but Chevrolet had model years that did not necessarily match the calendar year.

VA has no computerized records prior to 1972. They will register a vehicle that is not in their active system as whatever year is on the title or is on the last hard-copy registration card that you submit

quite common - back then a vehicle was titled almost everywhere by the year of first registration, not the manufacturers model year, but it should still have the correct 57 vin on the title .... in the 50's production started in late summer, and sales started about Oct/Nov, so a lot of 57's could have been sold in 56 ..... I had a 57 that was a special order probably summer 57 and not delivered to the dealer until very late 57, and first titled in early 58 - it was titled as a 58
