My truck is a 1956 3100 step side with a big back window. I live in Las Vegas so I am not worried about snow and salt, just the heat. I will be picking up my 235 block back from the machine shop this week. The truck colors I have selected is preformance yellow and black with chrome lights, grill, and bumpers. I wish to paint the block, head, water pump, valve cover, side cover, and oil pan preformance yellow, however I have a few questions.

How many cans of paint is needed?

What temperature should the paint be able to withstand?

Any recommendations or precautions should I be aware of?

I will paint the motor preformance yellow and the fan blade, starter & generator black. What would be a nice color for the clutch housing and 4 spd transmission?

Lastly I found this paint on the web it matches the color I wish to paint the body, would this be good for the motor? VHT 550°F (288°C) Engine Enamels™ are available in a wide range of colors, including exact match factory colors. All colors have excellent durability and superior heat and chemical resistance. They are specially formulated to withstand corrosion, rust, salt spray, chemicals and additives of today’s gasoline blends and degreasers. VHT 550°F (288°C) Engine Enamels™ are a unique blend of urethane and ceramic resins, which produce a tough and long-lasting finish for engines, engine accessories or wherever a tough durable heat or chemical resistant finish is needed.

If anyone has a recommendation of paint type or manufacturer that produces it in a spray can I would love to hear it. I do not want to cheap out for a few dollars. Thanks

so far on my 235 i have painted the head, which used only one can of paint, and another can to paint the manifolds,so i'm guessing it will take 3 to 4 cans of paint to do the block, not counting the valve cover, oil pan, manifolds, etc. hope this helps,

Indy wink

P.S. i would buy extra just in case something happens. for instance, i had just painted my manifolds and they looked beautiful. but they then fell off my table and got grass all over the wet paint and so i had to repaint. very frustrating.

Thanks for the info. Do you or anyone have recommendations of which type of paint or manufacturer? The color I have chosen is a performance yellow.

Your first post is not lost, it can be viewed by clicking Quick quote.

Hopefully a moderator will be along to fix your post.

I used 3 cans of duplicolor engine paint. It's held up well for 2 years.

No special baking necessary. Just make sure everything is clean.

The exhaust manifold I used eastwoods exhaust paint. I believe it was the cast iron finish. It's also held up pretty good.
Intake I used the same engine rattle can.

Good luck

Testing. Moderators, please do not delete this topic. I'm working with the software company to figure out what's causing these blank posts.

Jaime - copying and pasting from another application is a problem that hasn't been sorted out, you likely started out using Word or some other Microsoft editor? using the quote button and then doing a copy/paste again doesn't change things - either write out your post directly here or wait and see if Paul can get this bug sorted out

When I originally created the post I did do a cut and paste from a product I found that I was trying to receive info from someone who may have used it. Ahhh I seemaybe that's what happened. Although the question was typed in the box here I did cut and paste product info. Ok thanks. I was curious and it the quick reply to see if the original post was there and it did show up then when I did not reply it disappeared again. Ok thanks for the info and its a learning thing for me sorry if I caused any trouble. This site really helps me in my 56 restoration.

Are you referring to the engine in the u-tube video? If so can you tell us what color of duplicolor that is?

gray engine paint Dupli-Color Ford Gray #DE1611.

I think they call it new ford gray now, not sure if the color changed with the name change. I painted mine a few years ago.
It's not original looking missing the blueish hue some say was original.

But I was happy with the results for my driver.
