Or should I just buy new ones?
Any help would be appreciated.

The gauge went to hot so I knew it was a bad sender. If the guage still didn't read it would have either been a bad gauge or a bad wire from the gauge to the sender since the gauge had power to it.

There should be resistance when cold and little to none when hot. If there is no continuity the sender is bad. | | |

The sender has to be grounded to the block so clean out the rust in the threads and don't use any teflon or pipe dope. The gauge has to be well grounded too.

I liked the fact that you have to drink a beer before testing the sender.
