In my 48 chev panel with a 235 and has been changed to 12v. There are no resisters inline going to anything. I was told that there should be two of them. One going to the heater and one to the gas gage. Also told that the resister will reduce it to 6v. Does this sound right.
Thanks for any help.

That is about right.

12v to 6v Runtz-style gas gauge resistor

12v to 6v heavy duty resistor for the heater motor (it will get hot)

Ballast resistor on the power side of the coil, unless the coil as that resistor built in.
