Were they painted engine color in all 216/235/261 car/truck engine years?

I know its been discussed on the VCCA site and they all refer to the engines being painted complete. I was going to check engine illustrations, but I think they would be unreliable. An original photo, or your unmolested/unchanged engine are better "evidence".
Some of the "original"-color discussions about A-D trucks on the VCCA site are confusing: discussions about engine, running board, and wheel colors. They sometimes contradict themselves on what they consider to be valid documentation.
