We pulled the old 216 and 4 speed trans from my 48 PU this past weekend. I have a 235 I am getting ready to put in it's place. Are the intake and exhaust manifolds interchangeable from a 1951 216 & a 1954 235? If so I am going to take them off the 216, clean them up good and paint them then stick them on the 235 down the road.

It can be done, but the ports on the 216 are smaller than the 235. You will not be able to use the port rings to align the intake due to the difference in size. The 216 intake is also setup for a smaller carb, which may result in some power loss.

Like Dave said....Works fine.
But only as a unit.

As a rule, you can not mix and match
a 216 intake with a 235 exhaust, or vice versa.

The heat box bolt holes do not line up.

In the process of doing exactly that. I have a 57 235 and am putting on a 216 manifold. Got the ring insert adapters from a guy in Arlington WA $22.29 to my door, Buffalo Enterprises.
We shall see if all is good this weekend.

Just a heads up

Try a test fit when you get your adapters
When I received mine they were a bit to thick. The OD was fine.
I had to dress them down with a file.

Could of been a source for a leak

Good luck

This advice is important whether you use the adapters or you use the normal rings. This problem is not necessarily due to poor quality/thickness adapters (or rings). If the joint-surface on the manifolds (and/or head) has been ground/leveled/etc this might result in the ring being too "thick", and this would prevent the manifolds from being tightly attached-to head (resulting in leaks). In this case, as DADS50 stated, you have to dress/sand/grind off a enough material to allow a tight fit.
