I am looking to purchase a 1963 Chevy C60 2-speed tandem axle dump truck (gas 350 engine).

My question for you all is, does anybody have any information on the clutch linkage system? The clutch is there intact, but there is no linkage between the clutch and the transmission whatsoever, and I have had no luck looking elsewhere online.

Thank you in advance,
Dave

Hy davidcope, welcome, I believe your truck came with a hydraulically activated clutch. Your master cylinder on the firewall should have two outlet tubes, one for the brakes and one for the clutch. There should be a slave cylinder mounted on the right side of the bellhousing, with a short connector bar between the slave and the clutch fork, hope that helps.

3B is correct, hydraulic clutch all C & K models from '60 -'63, cab over truck use them well past that. If you look close on the master cylinder cast in above the ports for the line should be 'clutch' & 'brake'. Stock v8 would have been a 283.
Good thing it's not a year older, you'd be looking for the front springs!

Not sure about the C/K30 and higher, but for C/K10 & 20, the hydraulic clutch was used last in the 1962 model.

The thing to look for is a dual master cylinder (Brake/Clutch) and a slave cylinder (or mounts for one) on the passenger side of the bellhousing.

The dual master cylinder is configured side by side, not stacked like a later model dual.

So should I be looking for a short connector bar between the slave cylinder and the clutch pedal rather than a cable of some sort? I've tried almost all of the parts stores in town, and nobody carries, or even has a diagram for, what I'm needing. Any help is appreciated, thanks again guys.

Hy davidcope, it has been a long time since you first inquired about your clutch linkage. Does your truck have a dual chamber master/clutch cylinder, there should be two hydraulic lines attached to it if it does?

It looks to me that it is a dual chamber, here's a picture of the cylinder on the firewall:

Hy davidcope, thanks for the picture, yes that is a brake/clutch master cylinder, so you definately have a hydraulic clutch. There should be a short connector bar between the slave cylinder and the clutch fork coming out of the bellhousing. This bar is where the clutch adjustment is accomplished, I'll see if I can find a picture. I think the connector bar could be fabricated with very little work.

Here is a link to my scan of the clutch slave cylinder:

Group number 0.775 is the adjustment rod, 0.793 is the special vertical nut with the 3/8 n.f. thread, that would be the tricky part to make, if you posted in the parts wanted forum and referenced this picture maybe someone will have one, hope that helps.

Wow, thanks so much for this information! As I'm not very familiar with much of this yet, one more question...

Here is the only picture I have of the clutch inside the cab:

http://imgur.com/vMNAR

Is the linkage in your image all located above what's in my picture? I didn't look close enough the few times I've had access to the truck, and obviously I don't know enough about the system as it is. All I know is the clutch is either in the normal "up" position, or it snaps right to the firewall...there is no in-between (you can see the dent at the very bottom of this picture). Is this due to the clutch being out of adjustment? I apologize for my ignorance, my knowledge is limited to passenger vehicles!

Thank you so much for all of your help so far,

Dave

Hy davidcope, as padresag said the linkage is mounted on the right (passenger) side of the bellhousing. Now that you have a picture you could copy it and take that to your local wreckers and see if they have any or all of it. Don't be surprised if you have to rebuild/replace the master and slave cylinder, hope that helps.
