I have done a lot of research and am getting close to getting my overdrive functional again. What I have not been able to figure out with certainty is what size the fuse should be for powering the OD solenoid. My guess was a 20 amp fuse based on some data describing the pull-in coil current draw.

Does anyone know for sure?

If you're talking about the relay, I believe it's a 30 amp. However, these guys will know for sure.

Thanks Bats - Yes I was talking about the relay fuse. I wired up my own wire harness (14 gauge) and am using a 30 amp relay (universal black plastic type). I sent an email to Randy at 5th Ave. I will post his answer here when he responds. Looking forward to getting this OD functional again. Although I am suspicious that I will need a new solenoid.

I have taken it apart once. I cleaned it thoroughly. The primary pull-in coil contacts were not breaking since the contacts mechanism had bent and the plunger was no longer engaging the contact "spring" upon pull-in. Therefore the pull-in coil was staying energized. I made some adjustments and verified I was only getting about 0.2 V voltage drop in a bench test and decided that was good and that the holding coil must be the only thing energized.(fried my current meter capability in an earlier test)

Sorry for the long story...

I'm currently putting an OD in my truck. I have yet to order my parts from Randy. The OD is installed but I'm waiting for shifter rods to replace my 3 on the floor and get back to 3 on the tree.

Good luck with the solenoid...very expensive.

Just heard back from Randy. He says the fuse is 20 amps
