I know that an inline 250 6 cylinder can be made to work in a 235, but will the Hei distribuertor from a V6 be made to work in a 235. In my local salvage yard the V6 hei is plentiful, but no luck so far with the inline Hei.

It is completely different from the inline, and worse, the timing is wrong. The earlier V6 has an uneven firing order, the newer ones are even firing, but they are made to work with a controlled timing device, regulated by the engine computer, not a stand alone unit.
Should better search harder for the one that fits without anything else, in this case, the one out of a 250.

The mini HEI that Langdon's Stovebolt sells is a cut-down V6 distributor. Its out of a pre-85 Chevy 2.8 liter V6 found in blazers with carbs. You move the cam gear farther up the shaft, and massage the mounting shoulder, and she'll work. Make sure to recurve and use an adjustable vac advance. Or you can buy one done up for 160 bucks.

I'm kindda a lot more happy with the Petrox conversions than the Hei stuff I have...and it's cheap and easy

I assume the Petronix conversions use the stock distributor housing and shaft? Maybe you guys have better luck, but every 235 dist I've ever seen had too much shaft slop to be really good. That includes some of the mass-reman units.
