The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Is switch to HEI worth doing?

I have a 292 in my 66 GMC 3/4 ton longbed and am considering making the swap to HEI. I've been given a complete HEI distributer from a vehicle that was running until wrecked, but do not know which 6 cyl it had.

Will there be any problem if it came from one of the smaller 6's? How can I test the new unit befor installing it?

Any warnings, sugestions or tips from drivers with hands-on experience would be a great help

Very worthwhile conversion. It has a spark like
a bolt of lightning. Any 6 unit will fit. Check
the advance mech. under the rotor they are usually
worn out. there is a kit available to rebuild it.
If you want extra reliability replace the module
& pickup coil. Run a wire off the pink wire in
back of the ign. switch to the B term. 12 gauge
wire. Do not use the factory resistance wire.
