Got a new tank and it has the 10mm plug on the bottom. I'm looking to get a 10mm to 3/8 adapter. Anyone have a lead on these or a better way? It's a 52 3600 with a new tank.

Anyone see any issues with running this into some flexible hose?

I think running steel line from the tank to the engine bay would be safer. You should be able to find a metric to english fitting at Napa ? Mine here has a whole case of various adapters and fittings.

and if NAPA doesn't have what works, check a plumbing supply store

Section 8 of the factory assembly manual Shows a short section of hose at the bottom of te tank.

True. And I bought that hose thinking I would be able to use it. However, the connection on it is a 3/8ths inch and the new tank is 10mm. Oh so close! But if I learned anything from my airframe brethren in the Corps, it's that if it doesn't go past hand tight to begin with, it probably isn't going to go at all. And if it does, get the tap set out. You're going to need it!

That's on my list of to-do's today. I'm hoping I can get by there before they close. Looks like it will be a close one, but I should be able to get over there.

I went by one yesterday and almost bought a brake line that had the adapters on it. Had the line not been 1/4", I would have. The guy behind the counter wasn't too interested in helping or even pointing me in the right direction. However, I think I may have found the box you're referring to. I should have enough line to run it from the tank to the frame rail. I may rivet some clamps to the underside of the cab to keep it in place.

My '52 had a short nipple out the bottom of the tank and then a shut off valve, rubber hose, and finally the 5/16" hard line to the pump. I need a new tank and will be in the same predicament. I like having the shut off valve for fuel line work when necessary.

Anyway, I would keep a rubber connection somewhere between cab and frame to better handle the movement of the cab.

If you get a "spectra" brand tank you won't have to worry about metric threads. They have the correct pipe thread at the bottom

I just picked mine up from RockAuto and the price was $149 + $13 shipping. Found a coupon online for an additional 10% off that you enter in the "How'd you hear about us" box. It got to my house in two days even tho I went with the cheapest/slowest shipping option.

After checking out a local plumbing shop and being told that there was a slim chance that anyone in the US used a metric fitting for plumbing purposes, I went with the Jegs link above. I should be able to get it put in around the 15th assuming it comes in between now and then. I'll take pictures of how it fits and how I've got it routed for those interested.

I'd recommend getting a new sending unit with the top pick up and putting a plug in the 10MM hole.

I'm curious who sold you the tank with metric threads?

I need one for my 54 and want to avoid that.

I got mine through Classic Parts. From what's been said in this thread, the only place that doesn't seem to have the 10mm threads on the bottom is in DADS50's post above.

10 mm = .393" and tap drill size for 1/4" NPT is 7/16" (.437") so enlarging the hole .044" is all that's required to prepare it for a pipe tap provided the surrounding material is sufficient. My understanding of the short hose was to prevent the fuel line from becoming the path to ground.

Have you tried a test installation?
I remember a few years ago a thread about the inlet piping not lining up with the filler neck.

The problem may have been corrected since, might be worth a look

Put it in the cab yesterday, but didn't think to check for that. If it doesn't match up, I'll be sending it back and getting another. Thanks for the heads up!

Hopefully you won't have that problem, you would think after 3 years the problems would be corrected

Don't know why I was unable to read English earlier, but I did check that and didn't have any problems with the fit. I read it as the bottom fuel line. I guess I'm anxious to get that part in and see how it works out.

Well, everything fits! I'd suggest getting a bigger outlet to match the fuel line size, but other than that, I should be able to make it work. Thanks for all the help and input!
