The 350 SB,trans and drive shaft are in and secured. Need a hook up for the accelerator. What vehicle linkage(cable) and pedal will work? Also I deceided to add PS since the front clip is off. What PS box will work? Use a GM box or Toyota box? How about a steering collum, the original has shifter on collum. Could use collum but need to know where to cut.Any sugestions for a floor shifter/ console? Planning to go to Pull a Part in Knoxville this week, 1 3/4 hr trip each way. Would like to get parts needed in one trip.

if the engine were close to the stock position, the repro 5-9 V8 accelerator setup works fine, depending on how far off stock yours is, you might be able to adapt it .... for power steering, again it depends on how you have the engine positioned, and what steering box you use, but you'll need to cut the column and rag joint it over to avoid the exhaust and e-brake [not sure what was used there] - a 67-72 column with the auto shifter can work, or the stock one with the 3 speed shift box modified to use one lever/rod can also be used

The orginal 6cyl linkage and pedal pushes the carb linkage forward. With the edelbrook carb I need the linkage to pull the carb throttle lever back not push forward. The pic of the linkage looks like it will push thre carb lever forward. I was thinking of using a floor mounted gas pedal with cable, not sure which will work or if any late model car/truck will work. The PS box will mount in the same location as original except it will be on the outside of the chasis. The issue is the length of the collum and fit to dash mount. Since the box is ouside of frame I will most likely need two U joints and a shaft in between to bring it to the box, correct?? I will also need to buy a PS steering conversion kit. Can't tell is eng position is close to an orginal V8, since I took a 6 cyl out.

the original V8 linkage works on any V8 carb, with the original pedal, pulling the carb arm - the positioning is not immediately obvious from the picture of the set, but the mount points already exist on your firewall for that linkage and you can see here it works - you're welcome to try anything else you can find, but .... why reinvent what GM designed?

I believe I explained the original engine position in one of your other threads, if you have the fan within 1/2" of the rad without a very long fan mount spacer, it's nearly 6" further forward than stock [V8 about 6" shorter than 6 cyl], so your clearance issues will be unique

I used the aftermarket accelerator linkage as red58 shows. Works well. A lot easier than trying to make something work.

and here's a pic courtesy of another 'bolter, of how to rig the original shift box for an automatic - on an original column, cut for power steering showing about how much you need to leave .... but this is getting into HiPo Shop forum material now

Just went to truck to check accelerator rod mounting on floor. There is none, only hole in floor for rod to pass through, sheet metal is reinforced at hole. Can't use present collum for trans shift because shifter was cut off collum. So I need a collum or a floor shifter. I just ordered the linkage and the PS conversion kit.

I drilled the two holes in the fire wall for the bolts to pass through that mount the linkage to the fire wall. Didn't take much to figure out where it needed to mount for the short rod to go through the hole in the floor.

If you want I'll try to get some pics of how it is mounted later today.

Roy - not sure what year you refer to that you had to drill for the linkage mount bolts, but the '58 under discussion will have the 2 holes complete with weld nuts behind them, in the right location - on the firewall Caddy, as you can see in this pic, not in the floor

My 58 did not. There were a couple of dimples in the fire wall, and I assumed that's what they were for. Works well with the original pedal and the V-8 I have. Looks to be in the same place as yours. But there were no holes and no welded nuts in the fire wall.

It was the firewall, not the floor. I can't think and type at the same time. Dangerous to do so.

that's a puzzle Roy, my 58 was originally a 6 cyl and it had the mounts, and the blue '56 I've posted pics of also - the guy who converted that to V8 didn't know and just put bolts in the holes and fabbed up a cable

Checked the firewall on both sides there are no holes or dimples for where the V8 linkage would go. Will position the linkage through the original hole mark the bracket holes and drill out. Shouldn't be a problem.Do I need to put a reinforcement plate or just bolt it to the sheet metal?

Today I removed the clutch assembly from the frame, and removed the steering collum and box. Just waiting on the ordered parts to arrive. With the PS box on the outside of the frame instead of inside like original, the hookup from collum to PS box will have a sharp angle of the rod between the two U joints. Hope there is nop problem with that angle.

I used flat washers on the firewall to help reinforce it. Probably overkill.

RED58,
You were correct the holes for the carb linkage are already there. Mine were filled in, there are no welded nuts. The holes don't match up with the after market linkage bracket, they are to far apart. I used the hole closest to the accelerator rod hole and drilled a new second hole.
