Hello all...

I'm glad I think I've found somewhere that could help me. I just bought a 57 suburban that someone had in their backyard for about 15 years. The father passed away and the woman needed to sell it to pay off some debt he left. I am starting to look for some parts that I will need to restore it. I found it easy to get everything from the back of the front doors forward but am having a hard time with a couple of items. I am hoping someone here would be able to point me in the right direction. I will need original seats and back doors (not lift gate). Also, is the interior supposed to have a speckled paint finish.

I hope I can find some knowledge here.

Hi, and welcome!
The front end, all the way back to the doors, is standard pickup truck stuff. Rear doors will be the same from 56 to 59, I believe. Is yours in running shape? My 59 Burb is in need of a total restoration, probably an off-the-frame operation, and it will hit the road again with a Cadillac 500 engine, Turbo 400 transmission, and a 3/4-ton independent front suspension to match up with the Dana type 60 positraction rear end it's got already. I'm looking at several years, and several thousand dollars before I get to drive that one again!

Hi and welcome! Parts are available but scarce. rear doors are the same from 55(2nd)to 59 Seats should be the same other than the material. Doors go for around $150.00 ea up and seat can be higher. Are your parts beyond salvaging? Barn doors are easier to find in good shape than the clamshell type. Good luck and post some pictures, we all like picures. grin

I am not sure if the engine will run or not. It needs a gas tank, a battery, and of course some engine prep work since it has sat so long. I am wanting to do a complete restoration on it, but I have to finish restoring my 1920's home first. This will probably put me at late next year before starting it.

The back doors have some holes in the middle of it that were patched with bondo. The doors still open, close, and latch perfectly so that part isn't a problem. There is also some rust out on the bottom. This will be my first time doing something to this magnatude so I'm not sure if I am better trying to get those fixed or finding some real nice used ones.

I have looked and found new front fenders and new front doors that I am thinking of getting to put on. There is a bit of rust on it but I still thought it would be fun to work on for the price.

you could find a running 235 for fairly cheap (3-5 hundred?) and toss that in after you go through the brakes, then use the one u pulled to build while u cruise and decide what u need next. Get you parts together as you go. If you can find some fenders for super cheap that need less work then urs go for it!!! what kind of holes are in the back door? My burb has a jerry can bracket there and the doors screw up, id like a new one, but, I wanna convert my drive line to open (dosent apply to ur truck) but im getting every thing together before I mess with what I have.

I know not everyone shares my opinion but id rather enjoy my ride and work as i go then have her down and stripped, but that probably cause I drive her every day, and function is more importiant to ME then form. ( I have a conversion sofa that folds into a queen in my back which would freak out alot of purist, but I need it to haul upright bass rig?)

I wanna rebuild a head i have, i want new rear fenders and a passenger side barn door, i wanna install the brand new leaf springs i got but If i had the money to buy the shackles and bolts, id probably rebuild the head, and if i had money to rebuild the head ,id get fenders and door instead first cause machine sops will always be there, unless my engine dies first, then id rebuild the head.. lol my point was id rather work on it and do what i can/needs while i enjoy my pink beast.

If cash wasent a issue I wouldn't have a good guys ride either, cause id hate to get sad over a scratch in my 1500 paint job, id rather use the 1500 to buy another car. wink

just depends on what YOU want,

ne how, this place is great, the guys here can help you with just about anything except the winning lotto numbers, I know i dont have very many post under my belt.... but its cause most of my questions are already covered here..
