Lots of work on Brad's part ... pure enjoyment (and references) for you!

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 6 | I just rebuilt a 292, however I was wondering if there are any other engines that ran the same fan?
I didn't want to buy a flex (I like the look of the original mechanical).
Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | Flex fans are out, OK, did you look thru what Summit or Speedway might have.
The only other factory fan I know of is a three bladed clutch fan, found in passenger cars. I have one, but there doen't look to be enough clearance about 1/2 inch in my 63 C20 with a 292. I've been looking for a shorter clutch.

My 292 is getting put into a 1949 Chevy so I will be moving the radiator support around.
Basically I am looking to see what specs I need to look for. I have a 216 fan that is cleaned up and repainted, but the bolt holes do not line up. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | OK, I've run into that problem. I don't have the details, but someone here does. It's the difference between early and late, don't know the years. I've seen fan spacers that are slotted so they will work on both. You need to know the bolt circle of the fan. I'll have to look thru my 292 water pumps and see if I have both diameters.

The bolt circles are 1 3/4, and 2 1/8. The water pumps I checked were both re-manufactured, one was a 292 early style with large by-pass, the other sbc, and both had the two bolt patterns. That maybe the answer look for a rebuilt with both patterns on it.

I will have to check my bolt pattern on my water pump this weekend. My water pump is also a re-man. I do have a 216 fan, but a) the pattern doesn't match up and b) even if I was able to fit it to the water pump, the fan diameter looks smaller. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 874 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 874 | So, you want an OEM fan for a 292? Have you put an ad in the swapmeet? May or may not take a little while to locate one, but you may be surprised. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2012 Posts: 6 | Thanks for the responses.
I am thinking maybe it might be an easier deal for me going with an electric fan than the mechanical. I am not looking to move too much around out front.
Still debating in my mind.
Thanks for the idea Ghostride. If I end up going after one, I will post in the swapmeet. | | |
