I purchaced a complete new harness from our sponsor and thier conector is a 6 wire.I can't figure what to do or if I can wire my turn signal harness to thiers. Ive followed the directions and can only get tail lamps and front turns to work. Ive tried a number of combinations each get a different negative result.Do I need to get a new bucket harness to match thiers or will mine work some way Ive not figured out. Thier harness has as follows Lft front, flasher, right front Lft rear turn,to stop light switch r rear turn Please help | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | your signal sw should have the same wires as the new 6 wire harness or you don't have a factory signal unit - or maybe you have 'add-on' signal lights? .... here's a factory unit and this is the wiring schematicBill | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | There was a 3 wire factory unit available. It used the tuna can light housings and not your park and stop lights. To use it with your park and stop lights you need to replace the 3 wire switch in the housing with a repop switch. If you intend to use the separate light housings for your signals you need to run new wires to them and terminate the wires in your new harness. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 | my truck did not have signals except on front fenders, that may have been added at dealer. there were lot of lights on the rear and none were working. i removed all light got 2 new period style lights for rear. I can get turn sigs and taillamps to work on same circuit but no brake lites. I understand that to get these to work i need separat lites for turn sigs. Brake and tail on one reare light with jumper to other rear. correct? or get new bucket harness to go with new main harness. correct? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 | repop switch? im not following | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 | thx for your help sorry forgot to say. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,438 | 'Repop' is slang for reproduction. They are available from most of the old truck parts vendors.
Yes, you are correct that you will need another set of rear lamps to use your existing switch. Also correct that you can jumper the brake and tail lights if you go this route. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2011 Posts: 152 | thanks cletis, to use repop i need to remove steering wheel correct? The bucket does not slide down colum. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | yes, the steering wheel comes off easily, then there's a screw on the underside of the signal cup that loosens it so it can slide up [or down] and off, but you might be able to change the switch assembly without removing the cup

You should not have to remove the housing to replace the switch. | | |
