The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Wiper blade hanging up.

The dirver's side wiper blade (1950 3100- Has new electric 2 speed motor)moves to the left side and at full run will hold-up and then go off the glass and lock up the motor. When I remove the driver's side wiper arm it seemed to run ok. But then it locked again. The pivot parts at the end of the linkage arm look like they are not in the correct positions. Is this a repairable fix or are new linkage arms with new assemblies required. Sometimes it will run fine for 2-3 min. Tom

I believe I have found the problem. Was able to use my camera and take some pictures that I could not get my head in to see. It looks like the arm was able to get over a centering pin at the pivot point and jumped up above the drive point instead of being below. It is wedged in so tight that I can not move it by reaching up. With everything added under the dash, I could only feel the wiper motor and it was hot. I will need to get to the back tomorrow, removed the link arm from the motor,then remove it from the truck. I will then try and see if it is fixable or ordering new arms and see if the motor is ok. today the link was removed. Found to much play in small arm joint. This allowed the end of the link arm to pass over the center stop pin and wedge against the inside of the cowl. After removing, the rivot was hammer to close the gap (spacer wash had been worn down also). Looks good now. Pictures in link below, show installed and removed (repaired). Needed new clip as it was ruined on removal and found a chevy throttle body clip worked well (pictured). Running fine now, quit a job with the air unit in the way. Had to do by feel. Tom

What brand wiper motor did you install?

I used a Newport and had to adjust the index on the motor.

Because it didn't exist in 1950... and a truck was meant to be a workhorse back then...

Automotive AC did exist in in 1950 but the units were enormous, usually fitted in the trunk of automobiles.

Gotta love some aspects of technology. I use the forward facing camera on my iPad or cell phone in lieu of a mirror for stuff like that. Plus it has the added benefit of zooming in on things and being able take video.
