here is part of an email trailer concerning the subject... comments?

if the little round gizmo is a diode (keeps the electrons going in one direction, then it matters which way the wires are connected.. probably have to find another car with the wires still attached or go to the service center at the dealership and find out... anyway.. remember, if they are hooked up backwards it will suck the sound out of the car...

I've realized, after reading all the responses on it. Looking closer to the Cone, where one lead attaches, there is a little round gismo on the wire. It must be the positive. The other lead is plain.
Couldn't find a plus or minus mark on it. Flash

i dont remember getting a response out of this on either...... after reading it, i realize
i must have been drinking that night/day..

A single speaker system does not matter the polarity of the speakers, on sterios it does, more so with 4 speakers. Why you have the polarity markings is so you dont have the speaker on the rights voice coil moving out while the one on the right moving in, this results in some of the sound canceling out each other and lower volume.

I hooked mine up backwards once and my radio played "Roll and Rock" and "Western and Country".
Still sounded pretty much the same! grin

if you know which wires are positive and negative on the radio, try this. place the speaker on a bench. connect one terminal of the speaker to the negative post on a 9v transister battery. then momentarily connect the other terminal to the positive post on the battery, and watch the motion of the speaker cone. if the cone moves outward as you make the connection, the positive post is connected to the positive terminal of the speaker, and you can mark it positive. if the speaker moves inward, then the positive post is connected to the negative terminal on the speaker, and it can be marked negative. hope this helps.

If your country music is played backwards then you will get your dog, girl and pick up back.

All electrical components are powered by magic and smoke,,,, if you let the smoke out, the magic does not work anymore grin
