Do you have a web link for it?

There is no 1948 or later trans that will have the shifter in the same position. If you are going to that bellhousing a S10 T5 trams would be the way to go. 1940-54 axle housings will except the 1955-62 1/2 ton center section making it a easy open driveline conversion. The axles are all the same spline also. You will need to remount the axle housing solid to the springs.

I believe The modified carter bellhousing is a 48-54 bellhousing that has been welded to accept the prewar brake and clutch pedals. Rods 46, I'm sure you are aware that changing the transmission will likely force you to go with a new rear axle. There are many transmissions that can work with the 46 bellhousing with an adapter plate. Do you have a specefic transmission in mind? As stated above, the t5 is a popular swap. There is a tech article on this site detailing installation in a deco or prewar pickup. Below is a link to the tech article. http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/tranny/sandoval/index.html | | | | | Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 37 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 37 | not sure on my direction, but the pumpkin swap sounds good. does the s10 trans shifter locate in the same area as the stock 3 speed I have? and do I need to modify the e-brake bracket? my battery is already under the hood. my truck is pretty stock and I feel bad when I think of modifying things but I do need driving to be a pleasure, not a chore. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | The shifter tower will likely move back about 8 inches. If you have the park brake lever that comes up through the floor on the right of the transmission, you will need to make an adapter for your parking brake. It might be easy to scab some parts from another truck like the 47-54 trucks and run a foot pedal on the driver side, or a pistol grip brake like the 1955-1959 trucks had bolted under the dash. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 37 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 37 | my truck has the hand brake lever to the left of the shifter, bolted onto the brake master cylinder, not on the trans. Moving the shifter back sounds very close to the seat? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 1,377 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 1,377 | I used the modified bellhousing to install the T-5 in my 37,the shifter will sit back from the original location and I made a bracket to attach the park brake to the 5 speed. The parking brake handle will sit over about 2 to 3 inches from the original location and required doing some modifications to the battery box and a thinner battery. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 | I chose the machined adapter. It moved my shifter back about 8 to 8-1/2 inches, it moved my emergency brake over about 2 inches, but I set it up a little further back in it's resting position to keep it closer to the shifter. By using the adapter, I could use my brake and clutch pedals mounted in their stock position. The transmission sits right next to my master cylinder which I changed out to a Corvette dual master cylinder. I altered the cross member and the tail of the transmission sits right on top of it at dead center, front to back, plus or minus 1/2 inch. It looks great on top and great on the bottom. You can see a shot of the shifter on my truck web site below. It all took some work and time, but it is well worth it! No modifications to the battery box. It clears by about three inches.
