hello,
im rewiring my 38 chevy 1/2 ton. The truck had no harness so there's nothing to go off of.
the new one is the stock style. I wanted to convert to 12 volts and did that on a 54 truck so i understand that. Does the 38 truck have a voltage regulator? if not when converting to 12 volt should i use one. i do have one to use. so if I should what do I do? In the wiring diagram sent there is no voltage regulator. Similiar to the 39 truck wiring diagram on this sight. In the manual there is one(6 volt)But there are four posts coming off of it. 12 volt regulator dont have the ignition post. please help there more info the better. Do I take wire off the ameter(fuse style)and change to regulator? thanks

if you convert to 12V you will likley install a modern alternator in leu of the original generator. All GM alternators are internally regulated. There will be a post on the back of the alternator that will go to your battery using a heavy wire (10ga?). There will also be a connector 2-prong...one wire goes to 12V battery and the other goes to ignition (hot when key in run). Be sure to put a diode in the ignition line or truck will keep runing when you turn the key off. Some places sell the connector with a diode already installed, just check.
