on my 55 ist series 3100 w/235 engine. engine idles great, but sometime when i am driving at moderate speed, the engine will die. then i will pull over and it will restart. do i have floaters in the gas tank? any suggestions on what to do to eliminate this problem? ps: this will happen after driving about 5-10 miles. thanks in advance. jim

It sounds like your engine is running out of gas due to a clogged filter.
The little bit of gas that manages to get through after it dies is enough to get you going a bit more till it starves again... etc.
I'd replace it. It's inexpensive anyways... and right, you might very well have floaties. The filter could be doing it's job.
Getting the tank cleaned could be the next step.
2 cents worth...
Good luck!
Jerry
