...on a 235 sacrilege? With the cost of fuel and the lousy efficiency of the Rottenchester, I'm considering the swap.

I'm looking to keep the manual choke, so which 94 would I need? And does the 3-bolt Holley just slip right on my manifold, or is there a hoop I need to jump through?

Thanks for helping an old idiot who only knows enough to like his 55.1 3100.

You'll need an adapter to mate the Holley to the Chevy manifold. The most common 3-bolt Holley carb was used on a 239 cubic inch flathead V-8, so the calibration should be pretty close. It will have a 15/16" venturi diameter. Watch out for the slightly larger carb that was used on the 55 Ford 272 engine- - - -it has 1 1/16" venturis, and it will definitely create a flat spot on acceleration.

You might look into a Holly 660A1 They were on the 52-53 GMC, may be later 302s. That is what my 53 GMC 454-30 has on it.

It is a 3 bolt flange setting on some kind of adapter.

The GMC Holley has the large venturi like the 55/56 Ford had and it will stumble during acceleration. The 239 Ford is about the correct size but it will be designed for the Load a Matic distributor which means it will have port vacuum. You can either run a distributor with no vacuum control or you can convert the port vacuum to manifold vacuum.

The Holley 1bbl carb was used on several Ford engines through the years. Ones from either the 200 or 250 inline six work with a bit of adaptor and linkage mods. Steer clear of the ones with the clear glass on the float chamber as they tended to leak. They are a very squat carb so used them where height clearence was an issue. I can't remember if the 240 had a one bbl but none of them gave much carb problem.

Why not use a 68 up Roch. Monojet. It will be a simple swap & they have good fuel metering & can be taylored to the engine.
