The guy was working on a project and wasn't going to be paining it right away, but was down to bare metal. He used something called Gibbs to keep the rust away. He stated in the article that you need to prep the metal when ready to paint, but that the oil did not affect the paint, since there could be some in a seam or whatever. Anyone here ever used Gibbs or know where to find it?

It protected the metal for 3 months, then I simply wiped it down with xylene before priming the metal.

It's NOT compatible with etch primer, for sure. I used it on my bed pieces before putting them into storage. Other Bolters had cautioned me against it because of known incompatibility issues, yet I know that some Epoxy primers will work with it. I'd say you should apply epoxy primer to your bare metal ASAP. If, like me, you can't do that, then Picklex is one of many options that will work but I'd first make sure it will not cause adhesion problems with whatever primer you plan to use. Apparently, epoxy primer is fine as long as it does not contain any acid. I have the MSDS for Picklex if anyone cares to read it. Just send me a PM. I didn't realize it only works well under some primer and not all. A little research prior to using it with any paint system is definitely in order.
