Has the 402 BB.First trip out with a good sized trailer behind I was loosing power as it got warmed up.I had seen there were wire problems back at the coil hookup, so I put new wires to it,at start the 12V was there, but at run I was down to 5-6V.On my maiden trip when it was loosing power I hot wired the coil to get 12V and it helped a lot. What should the Voltage be to the coil at run, and is there a resistor wire out there available or should I go HEI and forget the problem. Thank You

| | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 1,002 | If you don't have an HEI you have a resistor wire. I couldn't find a wire diagram online. IIRC you should have two wires to the hot side of the coil. One from the solenoid this is 12v at start only. The other is from the firewall and is the resistor wire. 5-6v sounds a little low, I'm thinking it should be closer to 9v. HEI is the answer, but it will be a tight fit between the distributor cap and firewall. You will also need to replace the resistor wire and the wire back to the ignition switch with 12 gauge, 10 gauge would be fail safe. Do a search there is plenty of post on how to make the change.
