Sorry to ask another question so soon, but we're onto the next dilemma.
We're still working on installing the new wiring harness. I'm trying to convert the parking lamps to turn signals, and I'm confused by the wiring around the right hand fender terminal block.
We have a black wire grounded to the fender. Two high beam wires on a terminal. Two low beam wires on the middle terminal. And then a parking lamp wire on the last terminal (yellow wire).
Now we have two short wires coming out of the parking lamp assembly. A green wire, and a black wire. Both 18AWG. These simply have the coating stripped on the end.
Now with the harness wires, we're left with a blue wire with a plug that you insert a bare wire into and crimp.
The question is, does the black wire go into the blue wire and get crimped, or the green?
And then when we're left with a wire, where does that one go?
This is difficult to explain, I can upload some photos if that would help.
The instructions just say "a wire", so I'm thinking it doesn't matter, but then again I don't understand why there is a green and black wire.

Test each side to confirm the colors are correct from side to side. ...pic... Post pictures if you can, let us know what brand harness your using also Ask as many question as you need. Neither of the two turn signal wires connects to your left or right three-screw terminal block. Only Head Hi, Head Lo, and Park Lt connect to the terminal blocks. The turn signal wires from each lamp connect to the harness wires. (different color to each turn signal.)
That's probably the same thing that Gus said, but I used a whole lot more words!

I'm not sure if what we did was correct. But now I'm stumped. We're running a 6V system, so I'm assuming we need a 6V source. We don't have a 6V battery on hand right now, but we have a 6V/12V battery charger. We hooked the ground cable of the charger to the truck, and the red cable through a test lead to the green wire. Bulb lit VERY brightly. Then we tested the black lead (with red cable hooked to it, black cable to truck ground) and the bulb wouldn't light again. Needless to say we had the charger on 12V. Our mistake. So we figured we blew a bulb. Got the other 6V bulb in. Flipped the charger to 6V this time, and tried the green wire first, black cable still hooked to truck ground. No light this time. Even on 6V, with a new bulb.
I don't know what caused it to light the first time, every things hooked up the same, just the charger is on 6V now, as it should be.
Needless to say we're getting no more light. I'm not so sure we should have went ahead without asking another question. Please bear with this bonehead move.
We're we supposed to have the black cable grounded to the truck?
I tested continuity of both bulbs, and they both have continuity, so I think they're OK still...
What did we do wrong here? Thanks DADS.
Lonnie -- Thanks for the reply. There are two wires coming out of EACH parking lamp. A black wire, and a green wire. Right now we're dealing with the right side. We're not sure where to connect the two parking lamp wires into the system.
These are double filament bulbs, BTW.
Thanks guys.

Normally the parking light is grounded when installed in the truck and the battery is grounded

We're dealing with a Classic Parts of America wiring harness. The directions completely lost us as far as these terminal strips. Here's a picture of what's going on. There are two terminal strips on either fender. http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/af352/vincentmilone/wiring.jpgMaybe you can see something that's wrong so far. Still lost on how to wire in the green and black wire. Hopefully I can make this test work. The housing is installed, I'm not sure how to go about grounding it for the test with the ground cable of the charger? I could try grounding to the stud on the housing.

Looks like your doing very well. One you identify which wire is the park, just attach it to the terminal block with the yellow. The other will be routed to your turn signal switch.
Same for the other side

We grounded the housing, and test was a success. Black wire was the brighter of the two. So that's our turn signal one, which will get crimped into the blue number 35 wire. The green wire (the dimmer of the two) will go on the last terminal with the yellow wire. Right?
Thank you SO much for helping us out. One step closer to get this project done. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | Normally the left front and right front signal wires do not get crimped together. Maybe that's how your signal switch is set up?
Sounds like you identified the wires and yes the park lamps get wired to the terminal block.
I will add this. My parking lamps were found to be wired opposite. For instance the black wire was brighter on the left but the green was brighter on The right. A mistake in assembly I guess. That's why I suggested testing both sides to confirm. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 58 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 58 | I mean blue wire #35 has a female bullet connecter. That's the turn signal wire. Black wire (which is brighter) is turn signal, so for the right side black wire from parking lamp will get a male bullet connecter into blue turn signal wire #35.
Right? And yes will check other side, thanks for the heads up.

I am trying to get my turn signals to work as well. It looks like I have the same wire harness as you. the flasher that came with my turn signal switch has thee post but I only have to wires to the switch. I assume that I a third wire to provide power. I don't have any installation drawings any chance you could describe what wires you ran where? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 58 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2011 Posts: 58 | We didn't get that far yet. I'm hoping it's straight forward with our turn signal switch, but more than likely not! I'll probably have the same question as you when the time comes. Maybe DADS50 has the answer. He's been very helpful, thanks again!

the 3 prong has an additional post "P" for the little pilot light in the switch that blinks with the signal | | |
