My dad came by this past week via a road trip from Texas (1600 miles) and he dropped off a 99 GM NV4500 for my truck. It uses a hydraulic clutch and my 54 SM420 has a mechanical. Has anyone been successful at adapting their original clutch pedal/bracket to accept a hydraulic clutch or do I need to rip out the old and install something else (which I'd rather not do). Thanks!

Unless you have a late model engine that transmission will not work. The mount for the bellhousing on a 235 is not like the one on that transmission.

I currently have a 350 sbc in her. I see that AA has a bell housing that I could use to keep a mechanical linkage but was curious if the hydraulic would be a better way to go.

You'll probably get differing opinions on which is "better". In some cases, a hydraulic would be better, as it eliminates having to have a direct linkage between the pedal and the clutch fork. They also tend to require less effort to operate. On the other hand, on vehecles already setup for a mechanical linkage, especilly with the pedals mounted to frame, staying with a mechanicl linkage would save work and redesigning things to accomodate the hydrualic system.
Now for the personal opinion; I don't really care much for hydrualic clutches. There's no "feel" to them. I like being able to feel the clutch back through the pedal, something ou don't get with a hydrualic system.
