I'm working on a 51 chevy 1/2 ton pick up and I have what I think is a saginaw 3 speed tranny and only have the stock 3 on the tree linkage. can anyone tell me if the stock there on the tree stuff will work on my transmission? I don't want to go through the hassle of installing it if it won't work with an way solution. In other words, if it takes too much work to make it work, I'd rather just use the stock 4 speed. Any help and/or suggestions are very welcomed. Thanks in advance.

The shift linkage in your photo probably won't work, but it's fairly simple to fabricate something that will from flat stock. You will probably need to extend the length of the shift rods because the side plate of the Saginaw is longer, and shaped differently than the original 3 speed. I have converted a few later-model trucks (55-61) to use the Saginaw, but not one of the early ones like yours.

Ok. Do you happen to have pictures of the original shift arms? I've never seen them.

Take a look here. It's for the Muncie, but it'll show you how the stock linkage works.
