I have a 48 Suburban with the front split seats. But no rear seating. I only want the 2nd row seat. I figured that a "normal" AD 3100 truck seat with frame would work for this seat. Might not be 100% authentic but I never see ads for Suburban rear seats and at least half of the Suburbans seem to be missing rear seats.

Whats the story on rear seating for Suburbans? Keep trying to locate ones for reasonable pricing or fabricate?

The theory is that when panels were sold out of production for that year, folks would then purchase suburbans, paint out the rear windows and toss away the rear seats. My Great uncle Bill was a boiler repairman in the 50's and I have a picture of his suburban setup just like I explained. Too bad he wasn't here to see mine. There is a guy that sells nice repos here if you are handy. Do some searching

Another story for why the third row is rarer than the second row, and the second row is harder to find than a front set of 47-55 Suburban seats, is that the seats were removed to carry things. The seats were later forgotten or disposed of, after the Suburban was no longer a people carrier.

This almost happened to me when I put my Suburban into barn storage between 1975-1979.

There is someone who fabricates the rear seats for 47-55 Suburbans. I think that bowtietim might have a set or know about them?

Somewhere in the desert, only one day a year and only at a certain time, is the path revealed for the Suburban seat graveyard. All seats are preserved in excellent condition by the dry desert weather with enough of them to fill every Suburban restorers needs. The Lone Dutchman only found it once and but barely made it back alive. He spent the remainder of his life searching for this magical place but it was never found again. All that remains is the single wingnut that he brought back to prove that this place really exists!!

Check GE Creations out of Santa Fe Springs in California. They Fab these seats as factory originals. They also specialize in the the deluxe trim.

Hi Tim. I sure did and have also visited their shop many years ago. As you've stated they don't advertise on the web but an article was done on them some years ago. Their quality and workmanship is top notch and those who need repairs on stainless or fabricated parts, such as the seats that so many seek they are the best!

My Suburban is a field car project.

I will check into the company that fabricates these.

I am surprised no one has considered an AD truck seat for this, although I can't remember now if the truck seat frame is welded to the floor or not now.

Truck seat frames are bolted down ...

A truck seat frame is wider than a burb seat frame so it will need shorten and legs made to mount it.
Would not be correct but one can be made to work

I ended up using a conversion sofa. I know its not original but it fit perfect and works for what I need.( to be able to take my three kiddos in the back safely and carry a stand up bass every day.) Its 57 inches wide I think, is a tri fold so there is three sections that pull into a queen for my bass.

Some guy on craigslist had the sofa listed, and I called and told him not to throw it away ,if he was going to toss it, that id take it when I had money ,if he hadent sold it.. he called me back a few weeks later and told me to come take it away for free

Yes the back might be exposed but a vinyl cover would work. I am going to try and go authentic 1st

Some more information of what I have been doing with the reproduction seats. building lower cushion for 3rd row seat
Some people use high density foam for making the cushions for the reproduction seats.I found a set of original seat cushions for my middle reproduction seat and a upper original cushion for the third row seat.I had to build a lower cushion for my 3rd row reproduction seat. I believe Elhippie64 makes a great product and well worth what he charged me to build them.He has a set price and that's exactly what it is.He shipped mine out really quick.

That helps a lot but what about cushions? Do you just cut down a normal AD seat to fit? I hate not having the originals there. Hard to wrap my head around what it should look like. But the frame looks great.
