I recently aquired a'56 chevy 3100.(6 cylinder) The engine is pretty much shot, as it was ran hot, cracking the head and the cylinders are .039 out of round..A friend of mine gave me a 235(6 cylinder) out of a '54 3100...The motor mounts are different. The '56 has side mounts right in the frontsides of the block and the '54 motor mounts in the front cross-member, in the timing case cover..will it be possible to mount this engine in my truck?..I'm thinking I can drill the front cross-member and make this work.....Oh...I am new to the forum...from Way down in southeast Alabama

The 54 engine will have a much shorter water pump. You may need a fan shroud to keep it cool.

good point Dave..I did notice that the fan doesn't extend as far out on the '54 engine..I'll keep my eye on it once I get everything together
