I going to purchase a 1956 235 engine... The engine # is 03II870T56Z ... Block # 3837004 ...

1956 ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER

List as, Z 15-21-2400 Regular "235" Engine - 6 Cylinder...

Will this engine accept my 1954 Hydra-Matic Transmission ? Or would the ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER have to end in " 56XG " for it to work ?

Thanks...

As long as you transfer all the accessories such as the bellhousing adapter, starter, throttle linkage, etc. I don't see any problem with swapping engines. The serial numbers won't match, but the performance shouldn't change at all. If you've got a numbers-correct block it might be worthwhile to save it and have it rebuilt for future use.

Thanks again Jerry, I am getting this engine for a great price... Its a runner but do not know how well yet...

Unfortunately my truck does not have the original engine... The one that my father thought was turned out to be a replacement engine, blank engine # on the pad... So counting the engine that is in it now ( 1960 235 ) that makes it the third one...
